Bury Barn Farm

Phase 1

The clients publicity business had reduced its workforce and decided that the old, larger, office would be converted into holiday lets (phase 2) and a new, two storey, office building would be built nearby. The project is situated on the old wall of an iron age fort, part of a scheduled ancient monument. The foundations were planned to be over the old foundations of an old barn and pigsty from the old Bury Barn Farm so as to minimise it's impact on the ground.

The brief asked for the building to be a vernacular style and to be simple enough to allow for a small team/solo builder to be able to build it without any need for detailed tender drawings or any bespoke design from a Structural Engineer. Although this wouldn't be my recommended approach to a building like this the end result managed to provide a good set of spaces for the client and was constructed in the way they felt most comfortable.
